Sewards End is a small village of approximately 175 houses, two miles to the east of Saffron Walden. St. James' is a daughter church of St. Mary's, Saffron Walden, the building consisting of the church and an adjoining meeting room, the latter being the former village schoolroom, built in the mid-nineteenth century.

We are committed to safeguarding children and young people and vulnerable adults. The PCC has adopted the Church of England's policies and best practice on safeguarding. For more information and for details of our Parish Safeguarding Representatives, please see the safeguarding page of our website www.stmaryssaffronwalden.org/safeguarding

When St. James' participated in the "Growing Healthy Churches" activity our strengths were acknowledged as being a very friendly and welcoming congregation, valuing children within our worship and church life and being capable of playing a central role in the village community.

We are involved in a number of community events including:

♦ a Harvest Supper,

♦ coffee mornings held in the village hall on four occasions each year,

♦ an annual parish walk,

♦ active participation in the annual village fete,

♦ annual open air service followed by barbecue in village hall, and

♦ partnering the Horticultural Society in the organization of an Open Gardens event for a different charity each year.

Our key challenge is to involve more children in regular activities at the church.
